At the request of the Brinnhard family (of Yorkshire) I set this poem by Vicki Brinnhard relating to their family coat of arms, featuring the boar.
The orchestration is deliberately dark, like the forests where the boar lives.
The shawm part can be played on the oboe, but a shawm is preferred to enhance the mediaeval feel.
The sound sample on the MusicaNeo page is an electronic preview with the composer singing the vocal part.
bass voice, shawm (or oboe), harp, 2 double basses, bodhran
An instrumental version (with bassoon taking the vocal part) is also available on this site.
