I will always think of Mum as the voice of common sense and practicality; she would also inspire and endear me with her humour and love of artistic independence. She was also - like me - a non-driver, but we were amazed when we learnt of her one attempt at riding a moped outside our house in Wolverhampton: very skillfully she aimed her front wheel at the nearest lamp post and rode up it! Thank goodness she wasn't badly injured! Missing you Mum. You, your love and your creative inspiration will never be forgotten.

One of my fondest memories of mum are the times when she taught me how to do dressmaking and embroidery. This was true mother and daughter time, and we spent hours in happy companionship, working and talking about all sorts of things.

Je suis très triste d'apprendre le décès de Betty, j'ai beaucoup de très bons souvenirs des moments que j'ai passés avec vous, je me souviens de Betty, gaie, agréable, d'une grande gentillesse, toujours souriante.
Je pense d'ailleurs souvent à elle parce que j'ai gardé chez moi les deux petits tableaux qu'elle avait peints pour mes parents, English Rose et Bearded Iris.
Je suis de tout coeur avec vous dans ce moment douloureux; qu'elle soit partie paisiblement pourra peut-être adoucir votre peine.
Toutes mes condoléances à vous deux et à David, j'aurai une pensée pour elle et pour vous le jour de ses funérailles, je vous embrasse.

I was very saddened to hear Bette passed away on the 31st May - my thoughts are with you during this difficult time,
and how I wish I could attend the funeral, ah- the tyranny of distance.
How time flies, it does not seem 3 years since I last saw you, following Maurice's death.
