Chorales from the Johannes-Passion (St John Passion) for saxophone quartet

Description

This instrumental arrangement of the 11 Chorales of Bach’s St John Passion
is a transcription from the original and it keeps the keys as they appear in the complete work,
with numbers indicating where they appear in the work.
This will enable them to be included in a full performance
of the Passion or as musical interludes for a spoken recital of the Passion.

However, these changes in key can create a somewhat startling result
if all the chorales are played all at once,
so they should best be played as separate items
rather than as a continuous sequence in their own right.

I have replaced the fermatas, apart from those at the end of each chorale,
with pauses (commas) since some modern and romantic interpretations of fermatas
can be excessively long.
The dynamics are merely suggestions.
