My Quiddity for organ

Description

This piece was written especially for Carson Cooman, an organist in Rochester NY, USA. It was premiered there in September 1999 and was very well received, but, sadly, not recorded.
Its origins lie in poetry, as so often in my music: TS Eliot’s “Macavity the mystery cat” was beautifully parodied by Mary Holtby in her poem “McQuiddity”, about a dog that is responsible for everything that goes wrong in the house, missing gloves, missing chocolates, strange smells etc. My Quiddity is based on the rhythms of Holtby’s cheeky poem.
