The Boar of Brinnhard – for bassoon, shawm (or oboe), harp, 2 double basses, bodhran

Description

At the request of the Brinnhard family (of Yorkshire) I set a poem by Vicki Brinnhard relating to their family coat of arms, featuring the boar.
This instrumental features the bassoon taking the place of the vocal part.
The orchestration is deliberately dark, like the forests where the boar lives.
The shawm part can be played on the oboe, but a shawm is preferred to enhance the mediaeval feel.

Instrumentation:
bassoon, shawm (or oboe), harp, 2 double basses, bodhran

The original vocal version is also available on this site.
