Description
Setting of Gavin Ewart’s satirical poem about social climbing – the hippo knows long words but doesn’t know what to do with them, so he reverts to a favourite trick, blowing bubbles…
The learnèd hippopotamus
uses longs words like “dichtomous”
If they don’t exist, he makes them up
The true scholars and the high-brows
Raise their supercilious eyebrows
But he blows bubbles at them all –
glug glug glup and glup!
