Variations on O Come all ye faithful (Adeste fideles) for wind quartet

Category:

Description

Based on a Christmas carol composed/arranged by various composers
including King John IV of Portugal (1604–1656) and John Francis Wade (1711–1786)
but probably going back to much earlier times.
The variations vary between major and minor and between 4 time and 3 time,
with each instrument having a turn at the main tune

O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant!
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem;
Come and behold him
Born the King of Angels:
O come, let us adore Him, (3×)
Christ the Lord.

God of God, light of light,
Lo, he abhors not the Virgin’s womb;
Very God, begotten, not created:
O come, let us adore Him, (3×)
Christ the Lord.

Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation,
Sing, all ye citizens of Heaven above!
Glory to God, glory in the highest:
O come, let us adore Him, (3×)
Christ the Lord.

Yea, Lord, we greet thee, born this happy morning;
Jesus, to thee be glory given!
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing!
O come, let us adore Him, (3×)
Christ the Lord.
