The original tune is a Morris Dance polka, a quickstep or a reel and is also known as Darvy Knick Knack, Davie Nick Nack, Davie-Davie Knick-Knack, Davy Knick-Knack, Davy Nick Nack, Lady Carbery, Neevie Neevie Nick Nack. It is well known in England, Scotland, Shetland and parts of America. It is also known in the Netherlands and Holland where it is known as a fife or flageolet tune dating from the late 18th or early 19th century.
