Kichijiro (inspired by the novel “Silence” by Shusaku Endo) for flute and harp

Description

This was originally written for cello and guitar
but this is a version for flute and harp, by special request
Kichijiro is said to be the equivalent of Judas
in the novel “Silence” ( 沈黙 (Chinmoku)) by Shusaku Endo
The thoughts of Kichijiro are reflected in the music
especially in the Japanese pentatonic equivalent of the
old carol “Oh come all ye faithful”
which is repeated in a somewhat wistful and yet sardonic way
by the harp and flute
It also reflects Endo’s own views on
Christianity, which he never felt comfortable with.
