Description
A series of variations on “The Ash Grove” based on three versions of the Phrygian Mode.
In the first half the Flute plays the main tune with variations and the Bass Clarinet has a countermelody.
It starts in C# Phrygian (c# d e f# g# a b)
continues with E Phrygian (e f g a b c d)
and then goes on to F# Phrygian (f# g a b c# d e)
In the second half the Bass Clarinet takes over the main tune with different variations and the Flute has alternative versions of the countermelody, using the same sequence of C#, E and F# Phrygian
